My husband and I marked our 21st anniversary earlier this month while he was away on a work trip. We finally got a chance to celebrate the occasion this past weekend, with a quick excursion to Montreal, Quebec. I made a few sketches of our journey. Enjoy!
I took photos, too: architecture, streets, people, and eye-catching details here and there. But it was fun to use the sketchbook and add to these pages in a scrapbook sort of way to document certain things on our trip that I wouldn’t necessarily have photographed. I think it caught an entirely different experience than my photos—more personal, perhaps!
I used a 5.5″ square “hand•book” journal and a Pitt medium pen. I added the color later with a small set of watercolor pencils and a waterbrush. These tools were perfectly portable and I will definitely take them along on the next journey!
Wonderful! So glad you had a chance to get away. Love the journals.
Thanks, Stefanie! It was a fun little trip. Vacations are good for the soul!
I love a lot all your journaling!
So fresh and happy!
Bellissimo!
Thank you! It does make me happy – I need to do this more!
Your so lucky that he didn’t mind you drawing during your time together. Some of these pages are my favorite, really like your food spreads.
It really worked out well. I tried to be as quick as possible so as not to have him waiting for me. But it was a good time-filler when I would have been waiting for him or when we were both relaxing – For example, at the art gallery, he spent more time looking all around, so I stood and sketched some of my favorites. He did get to start eating before me! :) It’s a good way to learn to sketch quickly!
i sure love your sketched journals! sometimes pictures capture so much more than words can. coincidentally, we had a trip planned to montreal for our anniversary, too, but had to cancel last minute due to a sick dog :( . we hope to get there some day soon!
Oh, I hope your dog is better! I hope you are able to take your trip soon!
of course he started to improve as soon as we cancelled the trip! we were just grateful at the time that he was ok, though honestly we were a little sad about not spending our weekend eating and drinking and walking our way through old montreal. someday… :)
Each and every page is delightful…..I’m a fan!!!
Thanks Clare!
Thanks for sharing your special time and trip. Lovely work in your journal.
Thank you Ramona! I’m still trying to get used to carrying it around and using it.
Your Montreal sketches are really fun… I love that city, too! This is my first visit to your charming blog and I enjoyed it very much. You do a LOT of creative things, don’t you!
Jack of all trades, master of none, isn’t that how the phrase goes? :) I suppose if I focused on just one activity I’d really become accomplished, but I honestly like doing so many different things and get enjoyment out of all of them at different times.
I just love your artwork, so evocative! I think you could publish these!
Oh, you’re too kind! I am inspired to do more sketching these days, so I’m open to wherever it takes me. Thanks for looking!
Beautiful work! I live in Montreal and I can recognize everything you draw!
Thanks, Maude! I love your city!
